Waltham Cross is the most south easterly town in the county of Hertforshire in the Greater London Urban Area. It’s a perfect commuter town; 12 miles from the capital and just next to the M25 motorway. It is a town with some real history as with the city centre hosting three rare surviving Eleanor Crosses. There were originally twelve of these wooden crosses (later decorated in stone) which were erected by King Edward I between 1291 and 1294 in memory of his wife Eleanor The nearby showground was brought to international attention earlier in 2012 when it played home to the the various white water sports in the Olympics at the Lee Valley Centre.

Cheshunt’s history begins a little further back in the past, appearing in the Domesday Book several centuries after being founded by the Romans. As a princess, Queen ElizabethI lived here in the care of Sir Anthony Denny and Richard Cromwell, the Lord Protector died here as well. The main employer of the area is Tesco, who have had their head office in the town for many years. It was also home to the Lotus racing team for a while in the 20th century but it is best known as the home of pop singer Cliff Richard although Victoria Beckham and Cardinal Wolsey also hail from these parts.
