Given the chance to live in the London region, very few people would pass it up. If you're one of the people who are taking the plunge or you already live in the area and want to find somewhere new then you should take a good look at every postcode region. Each one has something different and are great places to live.
The EC, or Eastern Central, region is used within the City of London as well the Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Islington, Hackney and Camden. The area's sorting office is in Mount Pleasant. Like all other London postcode areas, EC gained multiple subdivisions in 1917 in order to improve mail delivery, navigation and street signs. There are four main codes currently in use; EC1, EC2, EC3 and EC4, and each of these have further sub areas, with a letter following the first part of the code, meaning that there are twenty-eight in total. Some of these, including EC50, are non-geographic postcodes that are utilised by businesses for direct marketing and PO boxes.
EC1M is one of these regions and is responsible for Clerkenwell and Farringdon, both of which fall into the Borough of Islington and share the post town address of LONDON. The house prices in this area are predictably expensive as they are in the very centre of London. Flats range from £397,000 to £ 829,000 for one to four bedrooms. Two bedroom houses cost approximately £859,000, increasing to £1,876,000 for four bedrooms and £3,822,000 for six bedrooms.
Ever since the 18th century, before the postcode regions had been defined, the area has been a popular place to live. People such as Oliver Cromwell, Erasmus Smith and the Duke of Northumberland lived here at this time. Many of the homes here stem back from this time, but it is mostly lofts that were converted from old industrial buildings and many offices are situated here. Chiefly young professionals live here, numerous of whom are in the design industry. It is speculated that EC1M has the highest concentration of architects and building experts in Europe. The area is part of the East London Tech City hub. There are many pubs, bars and restaurants here, making it the perfect spot for a night out. Apart from the aforementioned past residents, other notable inhabitants have included entrepreneur and theatre producer Phil Cameron, polymath William Cavendish and authors Anthony Horowitz, Daniel Defoe and Charles Dickens.
